SPYTTY PARK
1994-2012
Following two seasons of exile in England, ground-sharing at Gloucester City's Meadow Park stadium for 1992–93 and 1993–94, the Exiles moved to 4,300 capacity Spytty Park in Lliswery, prior to the beginning of the 1994/95 Conference South season.
County fans have great memories of games at Spytty, both in the League and Cup competitions.
From the historic, record-breaking Conference South title-clinching match (and subsequent pitch invasion) against Havant and Waterlooville, to the eventful FA Cup games against Blackpool and Swansea City, Spytty Park saw its fair share of County related football festivities between the 1994/95 season and our eventual move to Rodney Parade in 2012.
County fans will remember ‘The Shed’ (a covered terrace stand running the length of the pitch) fondly as its shape and corigated walls and roof helped up the level of noise created inside the ground and led to a fantastic atmosphere.
Nowadays the stadium is home to fellow football club Newport City as well as Newport Harriers Athletic Club who often use facilities through the summer months.
The stadium’s current capacity is 5,058, an upgrade on the 4,300 which was the figure when the Exile first moved in to the stadium.
The record attendance at the ground was for the FA Cup match against Swansea City in the 2006/07 season, officially recorded at 4,616.
With the occasional pre-season match as well as Wales Youth and Women's international games now held at the stadium, County fans still have the chance to watch some football at Spytty. Nor forgetting Newport City who play League matches at the ground every other weekend.
Now home to the Club Offices and Training Base, Spytty Park very much continues to be an important part of the club’s existence.
