EFL Awards | Matty Dolan receives PFA Player in the Community award

23 April 2021

Newport County AFC's Matty Dolan received his Sky Bet League Two PFA Player in the Community award on Friday.

Dolan was rewarded with the accolade which recognises the positive impact of players who go above and beyond off the pitch at the 2021 EFL Awards.

The 28-year-old is one of three divisional winners across the EFL - alongside Cardiff City midfielder Will Vaulks and Bristol Rovers winger Alex Rodman.

Dolan has been an ambassador for the mental health programme We Wear the Same Shirt for the last two years.

When asked why getting involved in community projects are important, Dolan said: "I think its massive if we can help out that tiny bit. The work that Norman [Parselle] does with We Wear the Same Shirt is fantastic and it’s a pleasure to be involved with.

"You only really see the immediate impact of the 22 players, managers and staff. If we can dedicate a Zoom call once a week that will have a positive impact.

"It’s not so much the things you do on the pitch but the things you do off the pitch. Dave Parnaby and everyone at Middlesbrough was massive on that and it’s something that I’ve been lucky to carry on here at Newport.”

Dolan is one of the longest-serving players in the County squad and has always demonstrated his commitment to supporting the club’s community projects.

"This is something I would like to continue to do," added Dolan.

"If I can be of any help going forward then I’ll always be there.”
