Newport County AFC’s Jay Williams earns place in Wales U16 team competing in the Victory Shield

12 November 2018

County Academy star, Jay Williams, has been called-up to the U16s Wales squad.

Jay Williams has been impressing in the County U16s academy side for a while and his performances recently earned him a call-up to the U16s national team training camp for the first time.

Today, he embarks on a five-day football festival in County Kerry, Ireland as Wales compete for the Victory Shield against Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Wales last lifted the trophy in 2015 when a side captained by Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu proved victorious.  This year, the Wales team will head into the tournament in impressive form with victories over Moldova and Slovakia.

Newport County AFC first-team striker, Padraig Amond, who has been coaching with the U16 team wrote this message on twitter:

GOOD LUCK, JAY!
