Three County in the Community Walking Football players, Nick Bennett, and Tony and Dan Brown, have been chosen to represent the Welsh Walking Football Team in their match vs England on the 8th September 2018.

The match will be one of four Walking Football Matches taking place at Jenner Park (the home of Barry Town United) on the 8th September 2018.  The matches will include Wales v England in both the over 50s and over 60s categories.

Tickets are just £5 for adults and £2 for children.  There are also discounts on Family Tickets.  For a breakdown of prices and to purchase tickets, click here.

Nick, Tony, and Dan have been trialling over last few months and recieved news last week that they had made the final squad to compete in Barry.  This is a fantastic achievement and everyone at Newport County AFC would like to wish Nick, Tony and Dan all the best in their forthcoming match.

The Club would also like to congratulate life-long Newport County AFC fan Eugene "Taff" Lovesey for also making the team.  Taff grew up in Newport and has been a fan from afar since moving to Stamford.  He will be captaining the Welsh Shadow Squad.

What is Walking Football?

For those of you that aren’t familiar with Walking Football, here is a  rundown of the sport:

Walking Football is essentially a standard 5, 6, or 7-a-side game (the number of players is agreed between the sides beforehand).  Each will have full team and 3 substitutes.

Walking Football is not unlike futsal with the same rules for offside and not being able to score directly from kick-off appying to both.

Games can last from 5 minutes up to 25 minutes but is always split into halves divided evenly between the agreed time.

There are no throw-ins in Walking Football.  Instead, there is a "kick-in" which is essentially a free-kick from the point which the ball left the field of play.  The defending team must be 3m away from the position of the ball.
